The East
It may be worth the effort to dwell a little longer on this special function of the Cardinal Cross.
As we saw before, the four suspension points of the Zodiac are a direct consequence of the angle of inclination t hat the Earth’s axis makes with the Earth’s orbit. Because of this tilt, Earth wobbles to and fro in relation to its orbit in the course of the year. One of the consequences of this tilting movement is that the Sun usually does not rise exactly in the East during the course of a year. This implies that our Ascendant point usually is not exactly located in the East either. However, the Ascendant point and the 0° Aries point do share a mutual affinity, an analogy.
A new analogy
To explain this, let us revisit text 5.3, where we were able, from our place of observation, to cast three spheres around us.
fig. 24 .2.1 Three axes and their corresponding planes
All three spheres are set up in the same way (see the description of the measuring systems). What is important to realize, as shown in figure 24.2.1, is that in this analogous setup:
for our place of observation,
the Horizon (green) has the same function as
the Equator (yellow) for Earth,
just as the Zodiac (red) has for the Sun.
East point, Ascendant and 0° Ariës
Based on this correlation, the Ascendant has the same function in the sphere of Man (3.2) as the East point for Earth and the 0° Aries point for the Sun. The 0° Aries point can therefore be seen as the Ascendant point of the Solar Sphere. In other words:
Man : Ascendant = Earth : East point = Sun : 0° Aries point
At a few moments during the year, these three points coincide with each other on the East-West axis.
In the same way, for the respective axes and planes we can say that (fig. 24.2.1):
Man : Zenith-Nadir axis = Earth: Polar axis = Sun : Ecliptic axis
There are moments when these three axes are found simultaneously in the plane of the Meridian; in such situations, something extraordinary is possible.
